Japanese Department was first set up in 1982 with 14 faculty members, who all have had the experience of studying in Japan, among which 1 is full professor, 4 are associate professors, and 9 lecturers; what’s more, 13 were awarded their Master degrees, which takes up 93% of all the faculties. There are also 2 long-contracted Japanese teachers. All the faculties are very experienced and skillful at teaching the Japanese major students, both undergraduated and graduated, and those who learn Japanese as a second foreign language. The department focuses on educating the person as well as imparting book knowledge, which has outstanding effect and has been greatly appreciated and praised by students.

  1. Educational Goals

  The department aims at training students with solid Japanese language knowledge and comprehensive social humanities, which will start their career as translators, researchers, teacher or managers in fields like foreign affairs, international trade and communication, tourism or governmental departments.

  2. Educational Norms

  2.1 The students should have solid knowledge of Japanese language and be skillful at listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. What’s more, the students should have general knowledge about Japanese society and its culture, as well as Japanese national conditions. They also have the ability to communicate with the native people properly and fluently.

Develop students’ ability to analyze and solve problems independently, and let them have the spirit of cooperation, innovation and exploration, with which they can handle certain situation concerning foreign affairs.
    2.3 Foster students with healthy personality, good psychological quality and self-cultivation, and better health.

  3. Courses Supplied

  3.1 Main Course

  Basic Japanese, Advanced Japanese, Japanese Extensive Reading, Interpretation, Translation, Listening, Oral Courses, Writing, Japanese Literature History, Appreciation of Japanese Literature, Brief Introduction of Japan, Comparative Study of Literature Between China and Japan, Appreciation of Japanese Poems and second foreign language (English, Russian).

  3.2 Practical Teaching

  Academic year thesis, graduation thesis, graduation field work, national defense education and other practice.

  4.1 Employment
  Since 20years age, students of the department have been proud of their high employment rate, more than 98% and were greatly appreciated and praised by employing unit. Main units and department such as some higher educational institutions, foreign affairs departments, Customs, governmental departments, Japan-owned Enterprise, joint-ventures, Taiwan-funded enterprisesstate-owned enterpriseprivate enterpriseand travel agencies.

  4.2 Further Education

  So far some graduates from the Department’s undergraduate program start their career while some others go to colleges and universities as Tsinghua University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing International Studies University, Beijing Normal University, Shandong University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Northwest University, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, and Xi’an International Studies University.

  4.3 Oversea Study

  For 20 years, some graduates from the Department’s undergraduate program go to Japan, France, Germany, UK, Australia, Newzeland, Russia to further their studies. Nearly all of them get Master degrees, and some even get Doctor Degrees.
