Professor

Ms. Cui Yaping, born in 1964 in Jiangsu province, a professor of English Literature, now is the President of School of Foreign Languages, and Director of Foreign Languages and Literature Research Center, Northwest University. Cui Yaping is a committee member of National Higher Education Steering Committee for English Majors, and a member of National Higher Education Assessment Panel for English Majors. She also works as the Vice President of Foreign Languages Teaching Research Institute of Shaanxi Province.

From Sept.1982 to Jul.1989, Cui worked on her B.A. and M.A. programs, majoring in English Literature, in English Department of Northwest University and obtained the relevant degree certificates. She taught for 10 years in School of Economics and Management, Northwest University, from Jul. 1989 to Aug.1999. In Nov.1997 she was promoted as an Associate Professor. In 1999 she went to the United States as a visiting scholar, to study and teach at the University of Illinois for one year. Since Jul. 2000, Cui has been teaching at School of Foreign Languages, Northwest University and was promoted to be a Professor in 2002. Cui works as the President of School of Foreign Languages since Jun. 2005.

In her teaching career, Cui has offered courses at multiple levels, including College English, English Courses for English Majors, American Literature, Introduction to English Literature, Graduate English, English Academic Frontiers, Theory of American Fiction, Literature of American Realism and Naturalism.

Cui has published more than 30 papers in academic research and teaching methodology. In recent years, she has presided over projects at different levels including 1 key project under Eleventh Five-Year Plan for Education Science initiated by Ministry of Education, 1 sub-project of National Social Science Fund, 1 planning project financed by Shaanxi Academy of Social Science, 2 research projects funded by Shaanxi Department of Education, 1 Education and Teaching Reform Project financed by Shaanxi Department of Education, 1 Academic Project funded by Xi’an Academy of Social Science, and 2 Quality Courses (Translation and College English) financed by Shaanxi Department of Education. Besides the above projects, Cui also compiled 1 series of textbooks under National Eleventh Five-Year Plan, 3 series textbooks for general use and finished 3 academic writings.

Professor Cui Yaping has won many awards and prizes: Outstanding Teacher at Northwestern University in 2002, Model Professor at Northwestern University in 2005, Excellent Teaching Award (second prize) at Northwest University in 2006, Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award(Second Prize) at Northwest University in 2007, Foreign Language Teaching and Education Research Award for Graduate Program in 2008 at provincial level, Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award (First Prize) in 2009 both at Northwest University and at provincial level. In 2010, Professor Cui was awarded Renowned Teacher of Shaanxi Province.
