On April 20-21, 2024, the 26th “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National English Debate Contest Western China Regional Semi-Final was held online. A total of 90 teams from 12 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in Western China participated, representing their respective schools. After two days of intense competition with five rounds, under the guidance of School of Foreign Languages instructors Xuan Jing and Ma Li, Zhong Zhixiao, a sophomore majoring in Mathematical Economics, and Sun Hanyu, a junior in Business Administration from the School of Economics and Management, won First Prize and successfully advanced to the national finals!

The competition was full of twists and turns. The two debaters started off with unfavorable circumstances and were not in their best form. However, after receiving encouragement and feedback from their instructors, they regained their confidence and faced the challenges head-on. In the following three rounds, they made a dramatic comeback, winning first place in each round, turning their disadvantage on the scoreboard into an advantage, and securing a spot in the national finals. The two debaters will begin their journey to the national finals in June, aiming for victory in Beijing. We wish them continued success and outstanding results in the national finals!
