On April 24, 2024, the 29th “21st Century Cup” National English Speech Contest Northwest University Campus Selection Round, organized by the School of Foreign Languages at Northwest University, successfully concluded. The final round of this selection contest was judged by a team of speech and debate instructors from the English Reading, Writing, and Speaking Training Base at Northwest University, as well as past winners of the national competition. A total of 27 contestants from 10 different departments participated. During the competition, the contestants, from the perspective of Generation Z, shared their stories around the theme “The Revival of Traditional Culture”, witnessing the changes and development of Chinese traditional culture.
The final round of the campus selection contest consisted of two rounds. In the first round, all participants drew lots to determine their impromptu speech topics. After 20 minutes of preparation, they delivered a 2-minute impromptu speech and answered one question from the judges. After the first round, based on their scores, the top 11 contestants advanced to the second round, where they gave prepared speeches. After two intense rounds of competition, Yuan Bocheng and Hui Yujie from the School of Information Science and Technology emerged as the winners, securing the grand prize of the campus selection contest. They will represent Northwest University in the upcoming “21st Century Cup” Shaanxi Provincial Semi-Finals.
