Lecture Series from Frontier Translation Industry –“Translation and Our Era” was held

On the afternoon of May 11th, at the invitation of our MTI Center in the school, Mr. Zhou Qiang, General Manager of YGYM Translation Service Co., Ltd., and a team of five including Mr. Wu Junyang, Education Director of the Business Department, came to our school to give a lecture. Professor Ji Jianfen, Director of the MTI Center of the school, and graduate students of professional master from the 2022 attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Chen Hanliang, the person in charge of the MTI Practice Base of the school.

Wu Junyang first delivered a thematic report titled “Translation and Our Era”. She briefly introduced the basic situation of Translators for the Nation from three aspects: an overview of both the global language service industry and the Chinese language service industry, as well as job positions and production processes of translation companies. Then, she combined the requirements of translator competency and job recruitment conditions to discuss how to improve translation skills, and emphasized the importance of preparing for qualifications such as the CATTI (China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters) to enhance employability. Finally, drawing from her years of teaching experience, she shared insights on exam preparation methods, resources acquisition, and other aspects related to preparing for the CATTI.

Graduate students of professional master of 2022 attended the meeting

To better leverage the advantages of university-enterprise cooperation, provide students with first-hand industry information, and create a platform for their future internships and practical experiences, SFL invited the company to give a lecture following the professional cognitive assessment. Such experiences sharing from the professionals of translation industry would help students to gain a better awareness of how important professional qualifications such as CATTI are for their future employment, where SFL also aim to further promote the effective connection between professional qualification exams and MTI education reform. The lecture received unanimous praise from the students and faculty. In the future, the school will strengthen communication with well-known companies in the industry to provide students with efficient and accurate services for internships and employment.
