On the afternoon of April 25, Liu Yang, Technical Manager of Beijing Ruwensi Technology Information Consulting Co. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the RWS Group, and an external mentor for the Master's in Translation program at the School of Foreign Languages, Northwest University, visited our school to deliver a lecture titled "The Application and Practice of Augmented Translation in Language Service Enterprises." The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Chen Hanliang, and all 2023 cohort Master's students in Translation attended the session.

Firstly, he provided a brief overview of the language service projects at RWS, discussing how “Augmented Translation” is applied in translation practice from several aspects, including translation memory, terminology databases, machine translation, training corpora, automation toolsets, and management dashboards. He also analyzed the latest trends in language technology and translation development, based on the current state of the language service industry. To better leverage the advantages of university-enterprise cooperation and establish a solid training platform, he introduced the RWS Group’s Intellectual Property Language Service Talent Development Program (the “Direct 163 Program”) and sincerely invited our students to participate in internships at RWS.

Subsequently, drawing on his personal experiences, Liu shared with the attendees his "secrets to success" in dealing with anxiety and adapting to industry competition and development. He emphasized that while the rapid pace of societal development can bring job-seeking pressures, each era has its own opportunities and challenges. As the new generation, it is crucial to avoid getting caught up in the rat race or opting for complacency and maintain instead a state of lifelong learning to enhance one’s competitiveness.
Following the cognitive internship, inviting industry experts to assist students in better understanding cutting-edge industry information through lectures, joint teaching, and other means, helps students prepare for internships in advance. This is part of our school’s series of initiatives aimed at promoting high-quality and comprehensive employment for students and is also an effective path to deepen university-enterprise cooperation. The successful launch of the RWS lecture marked a positive start for our school’s subsequent practical activities.
