On the afternoon of October 24, 2023, Professor Rüdiger Lohlker from the University of Vienna, Austria, was invited to have a discussion with the master's students of our school. The discussion, hosted by Dean Cao Ruonan, was attended by over 20 master's students.
During the discussion, Professor Lohlker, with his rich experience and superior learning, engaged in in-depth exchanges with the students on the writing and publication of academic papers. He patiently and meticulously addressed the students' questions regarding topics selection, conceptualization, writing, and publication. He emphasized the importance of extensive reading in academic research, encouraging students to actively think and discover problems while reading, and to be courageous and diligent in writing. Additionally, he shared some tips on paper writing and publication, such as the importance of constructing a clear framework in literature review to avoid verbosity, and the consideration of whether the article meets the requirements of the journal before submission. Professor Lohlker's insightful ideas were thought-provoking and inspired the attending graduate students greatly.
This discussion not only provided students with a valuable opportunity to interact face-to-face with an expert but also illuminated the direction for their future academic research.
