To deepen the implementation of the spirit of the “Northwest University Academic Committee Charter” (Xi Da Fa [2024] No. 13), improve the academic governance system, and fully leverage the leading role of the Academic Committee in discipline development, teaching and research, as well as the construction of teacher ethics and conduct, the School of Foreign Languages held an academic committee re-election meeting on April 30 in the Lecture Hall 2. All faculty members attended the meeting, which was chaired by Zhao Zhi-hou, the Secretary of the school’s Party Committee.
At the meeting, Secretary Zhao Zhi-hou expressed sincere gratitude for the hard work of the previous academic committee members and briefly introduced the organizational structure, duties, and work regulations of the Academic Committee. He emphasized that members of the Academic Committee must adhere to the leadership of the Party, follow rules and regulations, uphold a rigorous academic attitude, play a leading role through example, and make every effort to promote the high-quality development of the school’s academic endeavors.
The re-election followed strict organizational procedures. It was thoroughly reviewed by the school’s Party committee and joint meetings between the Party and government. After carefully evaluating the qualifications for committee membership, eight candidates were nominated for the university’s academic committee and specialized committees, and twelve candidates were nominated for the school’s academic sub-committee.

The election process strictly adhered to the system of anonymous voting, completing the elections for the members of the university’s academic committee, the specialized committee for scientific research, the specialized committee for academic ethics, the specialized committee for teaching guidance, and the academic sub-committee of the School of Foreign Languages in sequence. Through democratic voting and vote counting, Professor Li Tie was ultimately elected as the faculty representative for the 9th Northwest University Academic Committee, Professor Cao Ruonan as the faculty representative for the Scientific Research Specialized Committee, Professor Tian Jin as the faculty representative for the Academic Ethics Specialized Committee, and Professor Li Tie as the faculty representative for the Teaching Guidance Specialized Committee. Additionally, nine faculty members, including Tian Jin, Li Tie, Cao Ruonan, He Hua, Su Rui, Zhang Liyin, Zhang Min, Zhao Na, and Xu Lin, were elected to the Academic Sub-Committee of the School of Foreign Languages.
After the re-election, the newly formed academic sub-committee of the school held its first plenary meeting. Following a democratic vote, Professor Cao Ruonan was elected as the Chair of the Academic Sub-Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, Professor Li Tie as the Vice Chair, and Associate Professor Huo Fei as the Secretary. After the meeting, the election results were publicly announced for three days in accordance with the procedures.

During the vote counting process, Secretary Zhao Zhi-hou organized all faculty members to thoroughly study the “Ten Guidelines for the Professional Behavior of University Teachers in the New Era.” The focus was on the principles of “abiding by academic norms,” “upholding fairness and integrity,” and “maintaining self-discipline and cleanliness.” Secretary Zhao elaborated on the significant importance of building professional ethics and teaching style, calling on all teachers to integrate the spirit of these guidelines into the entire educational and teaching process. This approach aims to foster academic innovation through noble teaching ethics and to lay a solid foundation for cultivating foreign language talents with both a sense of national responsibility and a global perspective.

The newly formed Academic Committee will adopt the philosophy of “establishing the school through academics and governing academics with standards.” It will continue to strengthen its sense of responsibility, unite the academic community’s efforts, and inject strong momentum into the high-quality development of the university’s “Double First-Class” initiative and academic endeavors.
