From May 9 to 10, 2025, the 9th Northwest Graduate English Speech Invitational and the 15th Shaanxi Graduate English Speech Competition successfully concluded at Chang’an University. Our university’s graduate students delivered outstanding performances, winning the special prize for the first time, marking a historic breakthrough and achieving the best results in recent years.

The competition was organized by the Shaanxi Association of Degree and Graduate Education, the editorial office of China Postgraduates Journal, and hosted by the Graduate School, Graduate Affairs Office, and the School of Foreign Languages at Chang’an University. The event, which began in April and lasted over a month, covered Shaanxi, Qinghai, Xinjiang, and Inner Mongolia provinces. A total of 61 contestants from 38 universities advanced to the final. The competition, centered around the theme “Inheriting the Historical and Cultural Legacy, Writing a New Chapter in Culture,” featured three segments: designated speech, impromptu speech, and live Q&A. Contestants from both professional and non-professional groups competed on the same stage, with intense competition and many highlights.

Zhang Mengdi, a 2024 academic master’s student from the School of Journalism and Communication, stood out under the guidance of Associate Professor Yang Liu from the School of Foreign Languages, winning the Special Prize in the non-English major group. This marked the first time our university has won the highest award in this competition. Cheng Ziyang, a 2024 academic master’s student in English Language and Literature from the School of Foreign Languages, demonstrated exceptional performance under the guidance of Associate Professor Zhang Min, earning the Third Prize in the English major group.

This achievement not only showcases the comprehensive language skills and cultural literacy of our graduate students but also reflects the continuous improvement in foreign language education and graduate training at our university.
