On the afternoon of May 29, 2025, a delegation from Yan’an University School of Foreign Languages, led by Associate Dean Chang Lang, visited our school for research discussions. The session focused on reforms in public foreign language curricula and college English teaching innovations under integrated undergraduate-graduate education frameworks, aiming to strengthen academic ties, deepen disciplinary development, and advance high-level talent cultivation models.
Dean Cao Ruonan extended a warm welcome and introduced our school’s profile, disciplinary strengths, and recent achievements. She emphasized leveraging this exchange to bolster collaboration in talent development and academic innovation, jointly exploring new pathways for foreign language disciplines.
Associate Dean Chang Lang outlined Yan’an University’s programs, faculty development, and graduate education. School of Foreign Languages of Yan’an University offers undergraduate majors in English (Teacher Education), Japanese, and Chinese International Education, alongside an MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting) program, demonstrating proactive progress in disciplinary construction and talent cultivation.
During the thematic discussion on disciplinary development and talent cultivation, faculty members Ma Li and Yang Liu exchanged insights with Qu Cai’e and Wang Lina, college English coordinators for both undergraduate and graduate programs at Yan’an University, on curriculum design for college English courses. Key topics included: college English teaching reform, placement and course exemption systems; CET-4/CET-6 and postgraduate entrance exam training; innovative teaching methodologies and practical training modules and developing globally competitive foreign language talents in the new era.
The dialogue further covered training models for English discipline competitions and public foreign language curricula for less-commonly-taught languages. Faculty shared experiences on competition mentoring mechanisms, digital learning resources, and strategies for enhancing students’ applied language skills.
This exchange deepens collaboration between Northwest University and Yan’an University in foreign language discipline building, talent cultivation, and pedagogical reform. Both institutions aim to sustain communication, share high-quality educational resources, and elevate college foreign language teaching for undergraduate and graduate students, laying a solid foundation for nurturing talents with global vision and professional excellence.
