On the afternoon of June 4th, 2025, a youth study group from Utah, USA—the “International Leadership Academy”—visited our school and successfully held a Sino-US cultural exchange event themed “Explore the rhythm of Qin together, Youth's journey in harmony”. Comprising representatives from Brigham Young University (BYU) and Utah secondary schools, the delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with our graduate and undergraduate student volunteers, embarking on a trans-Pacific academic and cultural journey focused on history and friendship. Our Dean Cao Ruonan and faculty representatives attended the event.

During the welcome ceremony, Dean Cao Ruonan reviewed teaching collaborations and academic exchanges between our school and BYU, extending a warm welcome to the Utah delegation. She highlighted that under BYU’s China Teachers Program, six English teachers from Utah have taught at our school, which has significantly advanced the curriculum development of our English Department. Dean Cao emphasized that youth exchanges profoundly enhance mutual understanding and trust between China and the US, hoping this event would deepen bilateral cooperation. Ms. Gao Minna detailed our decade-long partnership with BYU. BYU faculty leaders Peter Chan and Peter Xie expressed gratitude for the hospitality, noting this exchange would plant seeds of friendship in American youth and continue our institutions’ tradition of cooperation.

The delegation visited the Sino-US Friendship Monument, statues of Confucius and Aristotle, and the Edgar Snow Reading Room, gaining deep insights into international contributions to Sino-US cultural exchange. At the office of College English Department II, School of Foreign Languages, participants held lively discussions. Youth from both countries shared their cultures and lives in a relaxing atmosphere, strengthening mutual understanding and friendship.

This visit responds to President Xi Jinping’s 2023 call to “welcome American youth to China” and marks our school’s second series event of the type. The exchange not only deepened Sino-US youth bonds but also laid a solid foundation for future global partnerships. The School of Foreign Languages at Northwest University remains committed to open and inclusive principles, promoting cross-cultural communication while cultivating globally competent talents.
