On the afternoon of March 13, 2026, the School of Foreign Languages held its first Young Faculty Academic Salon of the year in Conference Room 503. Centered on the theme “From Idea to Achievement: Pathways to High-Level Publications and Grant Applications for Early-Career Scholars,” the event featured faculty members Zhang Weiqing and Hu Zhuqing as keynote speakers. They shared their experiences in academic writing, journal submission, and applying for National Social Science Fund projects. The salon was hosted by He Hua, Vice Dean of the School, and was attended by all young faculty members.

Zhang Weiqing shared strategies for selecting topics, writing, and submitting high-level research papers. Drawing on his own research and publication experience, he outlined the entire process from forming a research idea to achieving publication. He focused on how to identify research-worthy questions, discover one’s research interests, and navigate journal selection and responses to reviewer feedback. Zhang emphasized that producing high-quality papers requires solid academic grounding, sustained critical thinking, and adherence to rigorous scholarly conventions.

Following this, Hu Zhuqing shared insights from his experience applying for National Social Science Fund grants. He systematically discussed topic selection and justification, research framework design, demonstration of research background, and proposal writing. Hu stressed the importance of integrating a clear research question with academic value and scholarly positioning, constructing a feasible research path based on well-defined objectives, and fully reflecting the team's academic strengths and prior work.

During the interactive session, participating faculty and students engaged in in-depth discussions with the two speakers on topics such as selecting research topics, journal submission strategies, and grant application preparation. The speakers provided detailed responses based on their own experiences, fostering a lively atmosphere. In her concluding remarks, Vice Dean He Hua noted that the Young Faculty Academic Salon aims to create a platform for academic exchange and experience sharing, further enhancing the School’s research environment. She expressed hope that through this series of events, young faculty members would achieve greater success in publishing high-level papers and securing research grants.

The salon provided valuable learning and networking opportunities for faculty and graduate students, contributing positively to the enhancement of research capabilities and the broadening of academic horizons.
