On the afternoon of January 14, 2026, the second foreign language teacher-student meeting for the English (Country and Region Studies Pilot Program) was successfully held in Classroom 5409, Building 5 at Chang’an Campus. The meeting was chaired by Dean Cao Ruonan, and was attended by the Russian Pilot Program, Arabic second foreign language teachers, the Dean’s Assistant, teaching affairs staff, and all students of the pilot program.

Dean Cao Ruonan first introduced the four second foreign language teachers: Mei Zilin and Liu Hui from school’s Russian Department, Zhao Yueqing from the same school, and Professor Li Qian from Northwestern Polytechnical University (Arabic direction). She briefly summarized the course teaching and learning situation for the current semester, encouraging students to actively engage in second foreign language learning and to leverage their language skills to empower research in the field of country and region studies.

Following this, the meeting divided into group exchanges based on students’ second foreign language preferences: the Russian group and the Arabic group. The six students in the Russian group communicated with Mei Zilin and Liu Hui on key learning points, difficulties, and scientific methods. The teachers emphasized that Russian learning should adhere to principles of systematicity and professionalism, moving away from fragmented self-study models. They also guided students to incorporate country and region studies knowledge, broaden their interdisciplinary perspectives, and deepen their understanding of the scope and essence of the “Russian-speaking world.”

The 19 students in the Arabic group engaged in in-depth interaction with Li Qian and Zhao Yueqing. The two teachers drew on their personal experiences to explain the linguistic advantages, significance of learning, and development prospects of Arabic, encouraging students to overcome any apprehensions. Zhao Yueqing analyzed the language’s characteristics from the perspectives of writing, pronunciation, vocabulary formation, and cultural heritage, stimulating student interest. Professor Li Qian focused on the integration of language learning with country and region studies, clarifying the teaching goal of cultivating interdisciplinary, versatile talents with both an international perspective and a sense of national commitment. During the exchange, students actively shared their reasons for choosing the language and their learning expectations, with all their questions patiently addressed by the teachers.

This meeting facilitated in-depth interaction between teachers and students, effectively helping students build psychological readiness and establish a positive learning attitude, thereby laying a solid foundation for the next phase of second foreign language courses. The meeting concluded successfully in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
