On the morning of April 15, 2026, delegations of leading officials and faculty representatives from the School of Foreign Languages of Nanyang Institute of Technology, Henan University of Engineering, and Zhengzhou University of Technology visited our school for a research symposium and exchange.
The three delegations were led respectively by Zhao Wanzhe, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Nanyang Institute of Technology; Gao Wen, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Henan University of Engineering; and He Wei, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Zhengzhou University of Technology. Zhao Zhihou, the Secretary of the School’s Party Committee, Li Ming, Associate Dean of Teaching, He Hua, Associate Dean of Research, Yang Ying, Associate Dean of Administration, and Li Yan, Director of the Second College English Teaching Division, attended the symposium, which was presided over by Secretary Zhao Zhihou.
At the start of the symposium, Zhao Zhihou delivered a welcome address, extending a warm welcome to the visiting delegations. He then gave a brief overview of the university’s development covering its history, achievements, educational resources and discipline expansion, as well as the overall construction of our school, giving the guests a preliminary understanding of the development foundation and educational characteristics of both the university and the school.
In the themed exchange session, Li Ming gave a systematic presentation on the development of our English, Japanese, Russian and other programs. His report focused on full-time faculty development, teaching team cultivation, talent cultivation initiatives and discipline competition achievements, demonstrating the positive outcomes our school has made in undergraduate program development and talent cultivation.
He Hua provided a comprehensive overview of the school’s research work, covering research layout, refinement of research directions, advancement of organized research, accumulation of research achievements in recent years, and achievement translation paths. She highlighted the school’s exploration and practice in leveraging international publicity translation, horizontal research projects and other platforms to drive research serving society and national needs, and shared measures and experience in school-enterprise cooperation for our MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting) program.
Li Yan briefed the attendees on college English teaching at Northwest University, focusing on curriculum system design, teaching reform concepts, talent cultivation objectives and teaching practice outcomes, showcasing the school’s explorations and distinctive features in college English teaching reform and curriculum development.
In the subsequent free discussion session, the two sides held in-depth discussions on issues of common concern. Participants exchanged views on key topics including foreign language discipline development, program development paths, college English teaching reform, research team building and postgraduate education. The warm, in-depth and pragmatic exchanges enhanced mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for closer inter-university cooperation and mutual learning in the future.
This symposium has not only built a platform for experience exchange and idea sharing between peer institutions, but also further expanded the breadth and depth of our school’s external exchanges and cooperation. Going forward, our school will continue to strengthen communication with peer institutions, deepen exchanges and cooperation, build development consensus, and jointly advance the high-quality development of foreign language discipline construction, talent cultivation and scientific research innovation.
