The 9th SFLEP National College Students’ Intercultural Competence Contest Northwest University Campus Selection was held on the afternoon of June 10 at the Foreign Language Second Classroom at the Chang'an Campus. Zhang Xin, Xuan Jing, and Zhao Danchen from SFL served as judges. Students from SFL, the School of Economics & Management, the School of Cultural Heritage, the School of History, the School of Public Administration, the School of Liberal Arts, Anlai College, and the School of Computer Science competed. After one written test and two rounds of impromptu speeches, 3 first prizes, 5 second prizes, and 7 third prizes were awarded.
In the first “China Story” round, contestants either discussed the contemporary inheritance of traditional culture or explored mutual learning among civilizations based on personal experience, blending personal insights with a broad vision and speaking fluent English, which demonstrated solid language skills and a strong sense of national attachment. The second “Famous Quotes Interpretation” round was more fast-paced. After brief reflection, contestants spoke impromptu on core issues of cross-cultural communication, citing widely and arguing clearly, and showed excellent cross-cultural awareness and practical ability.
After two rounds, Wei Zihan, a 2025-cohort English major from SFL; Ye Ziming, a 2025-cohort Economics (Base Class) major from the School of Economics & Management; and Zhang Yuhan, a 2025-cohort Finance major won first prize. They will form a team to compete in the Shaanxi Regional Final in mid-October.
