On the afternoon of December 13, 2024, to further enhance the quality of teachers’ project writing, the School of Foreign Languages held the “Second Pre-Application Defense Meeting for the 2025 National Social Science Fund Projects and Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Science Projects”. Professor Wang Shunyu from Xi’an International Studies University and Professor Lai Xiangwu from the School of Journalism and Communication at Northwest University were invited to offer professional guidance. Additionally, Li Fengqing, the Deputy Director of the Social Sciences Department at Northwest University, and Huang Xinyi, the Director of the Project Management Office, were present at the meeting to contribute their valuable insights and expertise. The participants of the meeting included Cao Ruonan, the Dean of the School, Su Rui, the Vice Dean for Research, as well as the faculty members who were preparing to submit project proposals. The meeting was presided over by Vice Dean Su Rui.
Dean Cao Ruonan opened the meeting by delivering a warm welcome speech, expressing sincere gratitude to the experts for taking time out of their busy schedules to provide guidance on the research work. She emphasized that the overall research strength of the Foreign Languages discipline is in a continuous process of growth and improvement. The School hopes to foster more opportunities for project proposal development through interdisciplinary collaboration, and encourages faculty members to leverage this platform to seek advice with an open mind and write high-quality project proposals.
Deputy Director Li Fengqing acknowledged the progress made by the School of Foreign Languages in submitting National Social Science Fund projects over the past two years. He emphasized that the School should leverage existing resources in fields such as literature and translation studies and focus on interdisciplinary research. This approach would help achieve better alignment and ensure that the discipline’s projects are tailored to its capacity and strategic direction.
Next, ten faculty members, including Zhang Jiawei and Cheng Tian’e, presented the main ideas for their proposed research projects in turn. Professors Wang Shunyu and Lai Xiangwu provided individual feedback, offering detailed explanations and guidance on aspects such as topic selection, logical flow, and structural framework, from the perspective of project evaluation.
Vice Dean Su Rui concluded the meeting by thanking the experts for their thorough review, feedback, and guidance. She encouraged the faculty to revise and improve their proposals based on the experts’ suggestions, in order to lay a solid foundation for the successful approval of their projects.
